Do you feel like forgiving someone means saying what they did was okay?
Let’s talk about the guilt or resentment we may feel around forgiveness! Many people believe that if we forgive someone, we are saying their actions were acceptable or that how they treated us was okay. But that is not true.
Forgiveness is not about approving or excusing what someone has done. It’s about giving ourselves the freedom to heal. When we hold on to anger, resentment, or pain, we keep those feelings alive in our own body and mind. We carry the weight of what happened over and over.
By choosing to forgive, we are choosing to release the emotional hold that the past has on us. We’re giving ourselves space to breathe again, to feel peace again, and to move forward without carrying the heaviness of the past.
Forgiveness is not for them. It is for us.
With love,
Christine
